The Methodist Church in Sri Lanka values the faithful service and lifelong commitment of its retired ministers who have dedicated themselves to proclaiming the Gospel, nurturing
congregations, and serving communities across the country. Even after retirement from active ministry, they remain an important part of the Methodist family, and the Church is committed to supporting their well-being and honouring their years of faithful service.
Established on 13 August 1965, the Retired Ministers’ Fund was created to provide financial support for retired ministers through a monthly pension. The fund also extends assistance to the surviving spouse of a retired minister in accordance with the policies of the Church. Governed by an appointed committee, the fund is carefully administered to ensure that retired ministers receive ongoing support with dignity and care.
In addition to financial assistance, the Church provides opportunities for fellowship and encouragement. An Annual Gathering is held each year, bringing together retired ministers from across the Connection for a time of worship, fellowship, and mutual support. This event is organised by the Spouses’ Committee as a way of expressing gratitude and appreciation for the dedicated service of retired ministers and their families. The annual gathering is supported separately and is not funded through the Retired Ministers’ Fund.
Through these ministries, the Methodist Church in Sri Lanka continues to express its gratitude to those who have faithfully served Christ and His Church, ensuring that they remain valued members of the Methodist community in their years of retirement.
